More than 30 museums in North Carolina will offer free admission to active-duty military personnel and their families this summer through a program organized by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Defense Department and a nonprofit support group called Blue Star Families.

The Blue Star Museums program began in 2010 and will provide free admission to more than 2,000 public and private museums across the country. Participating museums in the Triangle include the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University in Durham and the Ackland Art Museum and Kidzu Children’s Museum in Chapel Hill.

The offer is good from Memorial Day through Labor Day and includes anyone with an active-duty military ID and up to five family members.
