We had a great weekend over at the Durham Art Guild. In preparation for our annual Swing Into Spring fundraiser, we got into gear with a floral-adorned bicycle street team! Volunteers zoomed around Third Friday festivities, distributing flowers and flyers for the upcoming event. Some friends at art spaces throughout Durham were even kind enough to hang up our Swing Into Swing posters, from Pleiades Gallery downtown to SPECTRE Arts near Golden Belt.

Switching gears, we also have a few shows currently up around town. The reception for “ToKyoto” was held Friday at Room 100 Gallery; the show features Saori-inspired weavings and other mixed media works by DAG member artist Dawn Hummer. The SunTrust Gallery featured a preview reception of art to be sold during the silent auction at Swing Into Spring! In total, 70 generous local artists donated their work for the auction.
Among the 70 artists, there are four featured artists that were selected by Jeff Bell and Warren Hicks of the “Don’t You Lie To Me” North Carolina-based visual arts podcast. The featured artists and artworks are “Little Haiti,” a painting by Rachel Campbell; “Reclamation, from Durham to Oxford,” a mixed media painting by Linwood Hart; “No Mind for Showing…,” a mixed media drawing by Tedd Anderson; and “Sing to Me,” a collage by Tonya Thornton.
Durham Art Guild Executive Director Katie Seiz said that Bell and Hicks did an excellent job in selecting the featured artists. “[Jeff] and [Warren] were amazing and I’m grateful for their participation,” she said.
