Here is a sampling of the family-friendly events happening in the Triangle this weekend.
Holiday Pajama Night
The Wake Forest Renaissance Center’s free Holiday Pajama Night is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. Participants are invited to wear PJs and bring a blanket along to see Atlantic Coast Theatre for Youth’s performance of “The Snow Queen” (that is, the Hans Christian Andersen tale that was the basis of Disney’s “Frozen”). Visit wakeforestrencen.org.
In Raleigh, City Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” runs at N.C. State University’s Stewart Theatre, with shows at 7 p.m. Friday and at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $15. Visit city-ballet.com/event/nutcracker.
In Durham, Triangle Youth Ballet also performs “The Nutcracker,” with shows at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Carolina Theatre. Tickets start at $16. Visit carolinatheatre.org or triangleyouthballet.org.
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas”
Dr. Seuss’s Grinch is an immortal Christmas character, one in the same league as Ebenezer Scrooge in terms of being a humbug who eventually learns he cannot sustain his holiday joylessness. The Grinch appears (in costume) at Raleigh’s Quail Ridge Books at 2 p.m. Saturday for a reading of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” plus singing and holiday activities. Visit quailridgebooks.com
NC Museum of Art
This month’s Family Fun Saturday at the NC Museum of Art is focused on the “Inspiring Beauty: 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair” exhibit. Children can view the accessories on display and then create their own wearable art to take home. Tickets to this 10 a.m. program are $5 for members or $8 for non-members, and this price includes a guided tour of the exhibit. Visit ncartmuseum.org.
