A selfie caused an estimated $200,000 worth of damage at L.A. art exhibit

14th Factory

Someone took the selfie bait at 14th Factory in Los Angeles.

A visitor to the pop-gallery couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a photo with artwork by Simon Birch, a British multimedia artist based in Hong Kong. Birch’s show, “Hypercaine,” is a series of crowns on pedestals that are close to each other. The damage is estimated at $200,000.

In the video — where others are also taking selfies — you can see the visitor stumbling and causing a domino effect of sorts. Though the damage is significant, Birch told the NY Times he would not be putting signs up asking people to be careful.

Read this statement from Birch posted on the 14th Factory’s Facebook page.
