“Crowns” at Raleigh Little Theatre opened last week to a sold out Friday night. If case you didn’t get to see it opening weekend, you now have more chances. Three shows have been added Sept. 15-17. The musical was originally scheduled to close Sept. 10. Get your tickets now. It deserves a “tip of the hat.”

Raleigh Little Theatre’s production is directed by Terra Hodge. “Crowns” is a musical by Regina Taylor, based on Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry’s book.

Additionally, on Sept. 10 after the 3 p.m. performance, there will be a post-show conversation with U.S. Congresswoman Alma S. Adams.

 The Crowns contest

We asked members of the community about the stories of the Crowns that they wear, and stories and essays were submitted along with photos. Winning submissions were chosen by a panel, and the images of the winners are below. The portraits were taken by Beth Mann, and are on display in the ArtsNow Portrait Gallery in the lobby of the Cantey V. Sutton Theatre at Raleigh Little Theatre. They will be displayed for the entire run of the show. Congratulations to the winners!
