Pumpkin spice and everything nice: Our fave fall coffee drinks.

Happy fall, y’all … aka pumpkin spice season. If you’re looking for a local spin on the PSL — or fancy a diff fall flavor that still makes you say oh, my gourd — these coffee spots have gotcha covered.

Liquid State

Like fall, Liquid State doesn’t need a lot of bells and whistles to be fab. Keeping it simple with three components or less — served hot or iced — are a trio of bevvies worth a sip. The Dirty Chai (espresso, organic chai mix and milk) and the maple spice latte (espresso, maple spice syrup and milk) are rounded out with the recent addition of The Gregg latte, its name a nod to the Gregg Museum of Art & Design across the street. A raw brown sugar latte, it’s designed to highlight the floral and spiced aromatics of the bean from the high elevation of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala — nuanced and subtle with a touch of Southern sweetness, says Liquid State’s Sy. We’ll take some long sleeves, a chilly autumn morning and The Gregg, please… @liquidstateraleigh

Fulfilling our PSL dreams is Sir Walter Coffee — think Joe Van Gogh espresso, pumpkin spice syrup, steamed milk, topped with chai whipped cream and cinnamon. But if you’re feeling like more of a cinnamon kick, turn up the Cinnamon Nitro (Joe Van Gogh Nitro cold brew combined with housemade cinnamon simple syrup — omg) for a light, delicious taste of fall, served with or without ice … which is perfect for NC’s temperamental fall weather. But our fave? Spiked, obv. If you really wanna warm up, or take the edge off, go for the Pumpkin Spice Black Russian with pumpkin spice syrup, heavy cream, Tito’s vodka and Kahlua, topped with housemade chai whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle. Nom nom nom. @sirwaltercoffee

Fall for fall flavors all over again with Jubuala DTR’s in-house PSL, a rich combination of pumpkin, sweet and condensed milk, whole clove, whole nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, ginger pieces and sweetened with maple syrup. Says GM Shane Hess, “It should remind you of your grandmother’s pumpkin pie as you drink it.” @jubalacoffee

Sola Coffee

Pair pumpkin perfection with Sola’s pumpkin latte and pumpkin spice hot minis — and even pumpkin ice cream. Or get cidery with their cinnamon plum cider and hot cider. So cozy. @solacoffee

Cocoa Cinnamon

Farm flavors come to life with Cocoa Cinnamon’s Harvest Latte. Think housemade pumpkin seed and cinnamon syrup with ginger, allspice and a touch of cayenne topped with mace (the spice). And in November, look for the Windfall latte, a housemade chocolate hazelnut butter syrup latte topped with ground black pepper. We’ll sip to that! @cocoacinnamon

Cocoa Cinnamon has three locations in Durham. At the Chapel Hill Rd. location, there’s a micro-roastery and fresh, made to order churros.
