Relocation and moving tips [partner]

Moving to a new area or a new home can be very stressful, even under the best circumstances. Here are some professional tips to help ease the strain of moving, and make it as easy on you as possible!

The first step is to save space while transporting your goods safely by wrapping dishes and other breakables in your clothing items. This protects your belongings and saves packing space because there is no need to use bubble wrap, which wastes space you could be using for items you are moving. Use your socks as well by putting glasses or smaller fragile items inside them.

Another helpful tip is to label moving boxes with what is inside and what room they should be put in once the box reaches the new house. This quick effort saves time and confusion when the unloading/unpacking process begins. Also, save yourself the struggle and mark each side of the box with the information, not just the top.

A third thing to keep in mind is to have small plastic zipper bags on hand. These are useful for storing smaller items such as nails, screws, makeup, jewelry etc., as well as keeping those items separate and protected. These baggies can also be useful for storing snacks, phone chargers and beauty products that could leak or spill.

The most helpful tip to moving on this list would have to be to go through all your belonging as you are packing up to move and contemplate whether you really want to bring it along or if you are able to donate it or toss it. Having a lot of extra items and trinkets can clutter up your new space, and will take up valuable space in moving boxes needlessly. If the items you wish to get rid of are valuable, consider selling them on eBay, Craigslist, Etsy, etc.

In the weeks prior to the move, you will want to make sure you don’t stock up on new groceries and household items just yet. It is best to finish off what you have as close as possible to the time of the move. That way you can move your refrigerator easily and you won’t have groceries going bad during the moving trip. Once the fridge and pantry items are in the new home, it will be much easier to take inventor and stock up at that time.

The day before the move you will want to move and clean underneath large objects or appliances in preparation, to make the move go much more smoothly. These appliances are objects like your fridge, stove, washers, couches, desks, etc. This way the objects can be moved swiftly to the moving truck without the need for you to take time cleaning underneath each item then.

To make the moving process much easier,  research local moving businesses and figure out which one is the best fit for you. Professional movers can be worth the cost as workers take the belongings, furniture and major appliances and transport them to your new home, rather than you having to deal with those things.

Before moving your items into the new home, you may want to go through all the rooms in your new house to make sure they are cleared out and wiped down, so they are clean and ready for your belongings to be moved into place. This will save you the hassle of having to move your belongings to clean.

A final tip is that before you even begin the moving process you will want to make sure you have all your supplies at hands, such as various sizes of boxes, boxing tape to keep your belongings safe and secure and a marker or pen to label the belongings and other useful information on the boxes or containers. If you are using reusable or other special types of containers, you may want to have some duct tape on hand so you can label the containers without damaging them.

Following these tips should make moving day much easier on you to keep the stress to a minimum. You may even enjoy it!
