12 things to do in the Triangle this weekend

The Connells.Ethan Hyman
Christmas is coming! December is nigh. And whether you want to postpone holiday happenings with a boozy drag show or a celebration of pop legend Prince, or go all in with a parade or chestnuts on an open fire, there’s plenty to keep you happy (or even jolly) around town this weekend.

Drag Me to Whiskey

Drag yourself to Whiskey Kitchen for its first-ever drag show brunch, in partnership with Stonewall Sports. Drag Me to Whiskey (Sun., 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) will feature performances by Clymdya Byrnz, Ivory Winters, Emory Starr and MC Chloe Cassidy.

Sleigh Rides and Cider

A winter night at Oak View awaits with Sleigh Rides and Cider (Sat., 5-7:30 p.m.) @ Historic Oak View County Park. Kick off the holiday season with the annual event of horse-drawn carriage rides, hot apple cider, live music, holiday games and crafts and a Santa cameo to boot.

Hot Nuts & Cider

If chestnuts roasting on an open fire is more your speed, hit up mearby Raleigh City Farm’s Hot Nuts & Cider (Sat., 5-8 p.m.). Think make-your-own cider (spiked!) bar (with wild foraged add-ins and local spirits), crack and roast wild foraged nuts around the fire, live fireside music, local market tables and much more.

Celebrating Christmas

Get lit (the holiday light way) at Lights on the Neuse (times vary). Hayrides around the farm, a 3D Christmas bar, a cookie-decorating station, sweet shop, Santa and more promise to put your whole fam in a festive mood.

DFJ + Boylan Heights

Celebrate local artists and the one-year anniversary of Designed for Joy’s Boylan Heights studio and via 100+ artisan booths at DFJ + Boylan Heights ArtWalk (Sun., noon to 5 p.m.), hosted by Boylan Heights residents.

Fuquay-Varina Annual Christmas Parade

Miss the city parade, or just jonesin’ for more floaty fun? Post up in Fuquay for the Annual Christmas Parade (Sun., 3-4:30 p.m.).

12 Bars of Christmas Crawl

Ugly sweaters unite! Pull out that hideous holiday sweater or pop on your Xmas onesie or Santa suit and elf costumes and get ready to party. 12 Bars of Christmas Crawl (Sat., noon) is back and making its way from Alchemy (noon) through some of DTR’s best bars to help you get your holiday hop on.

Two events at Motorco this weekend

Motorco is a go-to this weekend with its staging of the Raleigh-based jangle-pop band Connells, formed in 1984, via Cat’s Cradle Presents The Connells with Leisure McCork at Motorco (Sat., 9 p.m.). Come back Sunday for an Allagash Oyster Roast (noon) for Allagash brews to complement fresh oysters from Harkers Island.

The Purple Party

The Purple Party – A Celebration of Prince (Sat., 9 p.m.) is back. The wildly successful dance party, featuring DJ OB-1 Benobi’s legendary video collection, that has delighted fans around the country will take stage at Carolina Ale House, Glenwood South for a night of hits, dance-offs, photo booths, themed drinks, costume contests and more — all to honor one of the greatest artists of all time.

A treat —perhaps a sugarplum — for the whole fam, the Raleigh Little Theatre tradition returns when “RLT’s Cinderella” opens Sat., Dec. 1 (times vary).

Golden Belt Warehouse Artist Studios Grand Opening

Twenty-five artists, food trucks and myriad circus-themed activities (think: Ferris wheel, jugglers, aerialists and more) convene on the Bull City in celebration of Hi-Wire Brewing and Golden Belt Warehouse Artist Studios Grand Opening Party (Sat., 3 p.m.). Admission is free and open to the public.
